Ford to Add Apple's Siri to 5 Million Cars
Dec 3, 2015, 8:47 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Ford today said it plans to offer Siri Eyes Free as a user-downloadable update to some 5 million SYNC-equipped cars. Siri Eyes Free will let iPhone-owning drivers press a button to activate Siri, which can then respond to voice requests. Siri can make calls, look up numbers, set reminders/alarms, deliver weather reports, play music, get directions via Apple Maps, and send/receive text messages. Ford says the update will be available to model year 2011 to 2016 cars equipped with SYNC 2.0, also called MyFord Touch. The software update can be downloaded from Ford's web site. Siri Eyes Free does not go as far as Apple's CarPlay does. CarPlay brings select iPhone apps to the car's in-dash navigation screen. Siri Eyes Free is limited to voice controls.
