Nokia today announced it has resolved a patent dispute with InterDigital. The manufacturer will pay $235 million to InterDigital to use patented 2G (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) technology in perpetuity. However as Nokia settled one dispute with InterDigital, a new one arose. Nokia's license of 3G technologies from InterDigital, which was to last until the end of 2006, has now lapsed. The companies have yet to come to a new agreement for 3G handsets. Nokia is also having troubles negotiating an agreement for 3G technologies with Qualcomm, according to financial filings from CDMA patent holder last week. That agreement does not run out until early next year, however so far the two companies have not reached an agreement for renewal.
