Sprint Eyeing More Video Options

Sprint is considering allowing users to place shift content from their home TVs or DVRs to make video on their mobile phones more appealing. The carrier has talked to Sling Media, which makes the Slingbox - a device that can control a cable box, TiVo, or similar device and transmit that video over the internet. Sprint also mentioned alternatives from Sony and Orb networks that allow users to do the same thing with content stored on a PC. The carrier recently announced a partnership with four large cable companies, which may explain Sprint's interest in these technologies. It has also said it is looking at offering new video content designed exclusively for phone screens. Verizon has offered some before in cooperation with Fox, and many TV production studios have announced they will produce additional phone-formatted content. Currently Sprint offers short clips from a number of popular shows as well as a few video streams.
