Facebook today announced the Facebook Live API, a tool developers can use to enable Facebook Live videos from cameras beyond those within smartphones. Facebook users are already able to stream video live directly from their device. Facebook wants to expand live video to more devices. During its F8 developer conference, Facebook demonstrated the power of the Live API by streaming video from a hovering DJI drone. It will be up to camera and app developers to expand live video through use of the Live API, which is available beginning today. Live video is now showcased in a new version of the Facebook mobile app for Android and iOS devices, which places the live content in a separate tab.
