CVS Health today announced CVS Pay, its own barcode-based mobile payments service that uses the company's CVS Pharmacy app. It includes several unique features, such as the ability to verify the user's identity when picking up a prescription, saving a step at checkout. It also incorporates the company's ExtraCare loyalty program. It can be linked to any major credit or debit card, as well as Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account cards. For drive-through transactions, the app can provide a numeric pickup code instead of a barcode. The app is available for Android and iOS. The CVS Pay service is available now in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware; it will start to roll out nationwide later this year.
