Senate Approves Trump's FCC Picks
Aug 3, 2017, 2:10 PM by Eric M. Zeman
The U.S. Senate today formally approved the nominations of Brendan Carr and Jessica Rosenworcel to the Federal Communications Commission. Carr, a Republican, and Rosenworcel, a Democrat, join existing Commissioners Michael O'Reilly (R) and Mignon Cyburn (D), and Chairman Ajit Pai (R), giving Republicans a 3-2 majority. The Commission had a Democrat majority under President Obama and a Republican majority under President Bush. With five appointees, the FCC is now at full strength. Pai has made clear his intent to undo the net neutrality rules installed by his predecessor, Democrat Tom Wheeler, as well as to remove what he views as undue burdens placed on businesses when it comes to the regulatory environment.
