Samsung Breaks 1mm LCD Barrier

Samsung has announced a new LCD technology to create the thinnest display while increasing durability. The new LCD integrates the screen, and a protective layer technology into a unit 0.82mm thick. The new protective layer actually rests against the glass of the LCD screen as do the other components, which can reduce the thickness of a phone by 1-2.5mm. The new protective layer doesn't just reduce thickness it also increases outdoor visibility by eliminating the protective plastic panel and the gap between it and the screen both of which are primarily causes for outdoor viewing difficulties. The LCDs will be available in sizes up to QVGA in the second half of 2007.

VGA res. cell phone screen?

didn't LG announce a cell phone screen with VGA resolution? phones are thin enough already, and i'm more interested in a higher res. screen.

I dunno if i would trust a thin LCD

i'm pretty hard on phones, my current phone a samsung c417 is only 2 months old and it looks like its been to Iraq and back. this sounds like a great break through in making phones thinner than paper but a thin LCD sounds dangerous to those who are like me and can put a phone through the ringer. 😁 😁
