CDG Defines EV-DO Revision C, Renames Standard

The CDMA Development Group (CDG) today announced preliminary details of EV-DO Revision C, which uses additional technologies to squeeze even more data into a fixed amount of spectrum. The latest version of EV-DO will take advantage of every modern wireless technology and buzzword to pack spectrum with as much data as possible, including CDMA, TDM, OFDM, Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) and Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA) advanced antenna techniques. The standard, which will be called Ultra Mobile Broadband, is capable of download speeds up to 280 Mpbs, although the CDG has not yet said how much spectrum will be required to reach such speeds. Revision B, announced just over a year ago is capable of download speeds up to 73.5 Mbps, but if an operator can dedicate 20 MHz of spectrum into a super channel. Ultra Mobile Broadband is expected to be finalized in early 2007 and commercially available in 2009. Revision B equipment and handsets are on track to be available in 2008.

20 Mhz additional spectrum

if i got it right, in order to effectively use Rev C, you need additional spectrum to get those speeds, but didn't some companies got unused spectrum recently bought from the FCC auction?

actually, that was Rev. B in that 20Mhz example - which is unlikely to happen in reality, even with the additional spectrum recently auctioned off

no1 could, probably not even this technology unless they dedicate an insane amount of spectrum per channel - which wouldn't pan out in real world situations
