Samsung to Delete Third-Party Apps from Cloud Backups
Jan 31, 2018, 12:46 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Samsung today informed those who use its Samsung Cloud service that it will no longer backup data from third-party applications. Starting February 6, 2018, the company will only backup information stored in Samsung-branded apps, including contacts, calendar, internet, notes, photos, videos, music, and documents. It will also store backups of the home screen, app installation files, and settings. "After this change you will not be able to backup app data or restore it from a previous backup on Samsung Cloud. Any existing data from previous backups will be deleted immediately," explained Samsung in an email. "Users who need to backup app data should do so using Smart Switch or the backup and restore functionality of each third party application, if available." Samsung did not provide a reason for making this change.
