Bully for Instagram, It Has Stepped Up Anti-Bullying Efforts
May 10, 2018, 2:42 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Instagram today said it has taken another step in fighting bullies on its platform. The company will begin to more aggressively filter out comments that are meant to bully other users. The company has been filtering out toxic and divisive comments aimed at minorities and other groups since last year. The new filter hides comments that attack the appearance or character of other users, as well as hide comments that contain threats. Instagram is turning this filter on by default, though users can disable it if they wish. Instagram says the new filter will also proactively alert Instagram’s moderators to repeated problems so they can take action. Last, Instagram plans to do more to protect its youngest users, such as underage celebrities, from abusive comments and interactions. These changes are being rolled out to all users worldwide.
