Verizon Launches Dual-Hinge U740

Verizon today launched the Samsung u740, a mid-range phone with a unique dual-hinge design that allows the phone to open like a standard clamshell for phone calls or in landscape orientation for texting and other data functions. Despite this hinge and the fact that it features a full QWERTY thumb-board, it is still quite thin. Some of the keys double as a number pad when the phone is opened for voice calls. The u740 features EV-DO high speed data, Bluetooth, a 1.3 Megapixel camera and Micro SD slot. It is available for $150 with a 2 year contract and rebate.

Nobody is really psyched about this phone...and the number of posts show it...it is a sync with a qwerty keyboard...this style is going out fast...you want a qwerty that's decent...spend the damn money and buy a friggin PDA
the only problem tho is PDA phones require the data plan to get online which is 45 per month. So, if you dont want to drop $1000 over the 2 years to check the weather then you cant really compare them. blame verizon....
One ugly phone
Saw this phone in Circuit City yesterday, and the gold color (let's face it, it's 1970's-era pimp gold, not champagne) will keep pretty much any guy, and a lot of girls, from buying it, no matter how cool the dual flip is. Until it comes out in a color other than something Huggy Bear would carry, you'll be seeing it primarily at Girlmania and Color Me Mine. And I agree with other posters who said the feature and specs set left a little to be desired. It's a great design, with already-outdated technology packed into it, in a color only My Little Pony would like. When it comes out in black, silver, gray, or nearly any color than metallic gold, I think it might do well.

No QVGA
You would think with all of the features this phone has, that it would have a QVGA display.

actually a good design
Not often will i be jelous of a CDMA phone, but this one would fulfill my need greatly, I don't have use for a PDA but text quite a bit, It would be nice to see this as a GSM model.

I got a change to play with it too, the keyboard is a bit small but i think its easier to use than a standard dial pad for texting its was fast nice and surprisingly small smaller than the razr by like 20% and smaller than my lg-vx8600 so I think this...

Looks Like the SYNC
Looks like a SYNC on the outside.... But, SURPRISE, it's got a full qwerty keyboard! Lame.
That keyboard looks like it would be a bit cumbersome to use. That's a standard flip phone with a full QWERTY keyboard crammed onto the same a normal phone dial pad would go? Interesting. Would have to see it in person.
