Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon Wear 2500, an update to its platform for wearable devices. This platform specifically targets wearables for children. The 2500 is based on a quad-core A7 processor and has an integrated GPU with support for cameras up to 5 megapixels for video chatting. The 2500 is based on a small version of Android O that fits into 512 MB. It bakes in support for various voice assistants, including Google Assistant. The 2500 includes NFC so kids can make mobile payments when needed. Other features of the Snapdragon Wear 2500 include low-power Bluetooth, LTE 4G, and location tracking, and an advanced sensor hub to accurately track movement. The Snapdragon Wear 2500 does all this in a compact form factor that is more efficient than the previous generation silicon. Qualcomm is shipping samples of the 2500 now and will offer a developer kit come fall.
