Instagram has made a "lite" version of its mobile app available via the Google Play Store. The app is a pared-down version of its service that offers access to core features such as posting photos; sharing photos to stories and dressing them up with text; watching stories from other users; and browsing stories, photos, and videos in the Explore tab. Instagram says the app will also soon include a direct messaging feature. The app is incredibly small at just 573 kb. Instagram said, "We are testing a new version of Instagram for Android that takes up less space on your device, uses less data, and starts faster." The app is being tested in Mexico first and may expand to the countries later this year.
