Alltel Adds Dedicated Search Key to Phones

Beginning with the LG 8600, Alltel is installing a dedicated search application and button to its phones. The button will activate a BREW-based client that has a search box for users to look for content, information, or services. The search engine software comes from JumpTap and will return results from both on and off the Alltel deck. Results that appear on handsets will include raw organic links, as well as targeted paid search links, and display ads. The search client will be Alltel branded, and the key will have a picture of a magnifying glass on it. The LG 8600 with the search application/key is already available, and Alltel will add the key to more handsets in the coming months.

Already Available on Alltel

This feature has already been available on the Motorola KRZR from Alltel for several months. It is a BREW Axcess Application that needs to be downloaded through the Axcess Shop. It gives the user not only the ability to search for news, sports, ringtones, etc, but it also allows searching white and yellow pages. It also has a search option to give directions (turn by turn) and up-to-date weather reports. A rather handy feature.

SWEET! At least they're only about three years behind every national provider out there. I figured it was a search engine to look for potential buyers.
