SnapChat Takes on TikTok
Nov 23, 2020, 10:56 AM by Rich Brome @rbrome.bsky.social

SnapChat has launched Spotlight, a new feature that seems designed to compete more directly with TikTok. Like TikTok, Spotlight will use an algorithm to suggest new videos from outside your social network that you might enjoy. Uniquely, the feature will allow users to deep-dive into specific topics. Because many Snapchat users keep their profiles private, many suggested videos will appear to users anonymously (without any attribution). Snapchat will motivate users to create viral content for Spotlight by paying out "$1 million per day through the end of the year to users who share the most popular clips."
