AT&T Enhances EDGE Network Ahead of iPhone Launch
Jun 29, 2007, 1:51 PM by (staff)
AT&T confirmed that it spent $50 million to improve its EDGE data network just before the iPhone goes on sale later today. Before the improvements, AT&T reported that its EDGE network delivered speeds between 75-135 kbps. After the improvements, users can expect up to 200 kbps. Phone Scoop achieved EDGE network speeds of 149, 176 and 250 kbps in tests conducted through DSL Reports. The operation was called "Fine Edge," and the speed boosts were achieved, in part, by adding T1 lines to base stations. Update: Verizon Wireless has finished upgrading its entire EV-DO network to Revision A. Rev. A will permit download speeds of 600 kbps to 1.4 mbps and upload speeds of 500-800 kbps.

I think it should say... Verizon has upgraded it's EV-DO NETWORK to Rev A, not it's entire network. There are still areas without EV-DO...

Phonescoop is NOT Impartial and therefore lacks integrity
I guess it would be too much to ask the editors of this site to actually show some class and report about wireless phones in a manner that doesn't cause squabbling.
Verizon picked a silly day to make the announcement when everyone knew it would be overshadowed by the iphone/edge launch
In other words, if you don't like the site, it's a free country and you don't have to visit it.
Dear Mr. Steve Jobs - Thanks for the iNightmare
Since news came out of the iPhone, this was one of the few gadgets I was looking forward to purchasing. Normally, I wait for the 2nd version to come out so all the bugs would get worked out but I figured you did your research and testing and wouldn’t release a product like a cell phone that doesn’t work properly. I was even interviewed by my local paper in anticipation of the iPhone.
Like thousands of others, I waited in line for an iPhone on Friday because I believe in your product.I headed to a little known AT&T store in my city hoping that I could get in line. I figured I would be about the 20th place or so. When I arrived at about 3:00 p.m. on Friday after work, I found the line to be quite short with some ve...

Actually, its RCR News' Fault, Not PhoneScoop's (re: Impartiality)

So, if you guys want to scream "BIAS!", perhaps you should head over to RCR News and complain over there, as they are the ones that chose to lump the stories together. 😳

And you call Verizon a THEIF!!!!!!
You have to be at home to DL music to the your New iPhone.
They force you to buy a plan starting $59.99 with something some people don't need like the 200 sms.
You have to sign a new 2 yr agreement. Pay the phone at full cost. And cannot purchase INS. for it.
People in this forum should know that if we sign a contract that we will not pay full price for a phone. If I'm going to buy a phone at retail price. Y would I wanna sign a new 2yr. contract.
I would recomment people to wait for the LG Prada. Cause this is the first phone that Apple make. LG vs Apple. I rather trust a company that has been making phone for more than a decade than someone who start making phone.

50 mill ??
Keep calling and complaining. Screw EDGE, screw UMTS, all I care is about is HSDPA, and megabit plus speeds!!!
Awesome
So??
"Cingular's claim of the "Largest high-speed wireless data network in America"
From my information, 80% of Cingular's "high-speed" network is powered by its 2.5G EDGE network.
Sprint Mobile Broadband (400-700kbps) is 5 times faster than Cingular's EDGE (70-135kbps)
In terms of wireless broadband coverage, Sprint covers three times more people (153 million vs. 47 million), four times more cities (5,138 vs. 1.092) and five times more airports (486 vs. 95) than Cingular's broadband network, BroadbandConnect. "

Ver-- what?
It that not hilarious? Verizon makes a much more consequential upgrade than AT&T and it's just brushed to the side.
Today is iDay, and, not that I am an iPhone enthusiast--rather, I'm relatively indifferent--,the only way another company is getting business is if the others give customers a hooker with purchase of a new line....
..but then again, AT&T/Apple will just launche the iHooker, which will be an ordinary hooker with an iTunes account and is Podcast-ready.
now just give me 3g
screw the iphone, i like my 8525 just fine, and at the price i paid for it (free through cingular premier) i cant complain
except i want 3g... sprint and verizon have it here
Well, that's certainly more like it
