Today the FCC approved the first BlackBerry with Wi-Fi and cellular components together in one device. This BlackBerry, approved for GSM/EDGE 850/1900 in the U.S., looks similar in form to the 8800 and 8830 series from Research in Motion. The Wi-Fi broadcasts in the 5.4 Ghz and 5.8 Ghz spectrum range as well as the 2.4 Ghz range, which marks it as 802.11a/b/g. It also has Bluetooth and a microSD slot. RIM's CEO Jim Balsillie had recently mentioned that RIM would release a Wi-Fi-enabled BlackBerry by the end of 2007.
