Microsoft today announced it has acquired the rights to buy Musiwave. Musiwave provides an music store platform including software, songs and licensing to most of Europe's largest operators. They are currently owned by Openwave, who bought them in hopes of creating a larger phone platform out of their browser environment. It is expected Microsoft would use Musiwave's relationships with labels and carriers to extend Windows Mobile's multimedia offerings abroad.
