Today Qualcomm announced that it is going to purchase mobile banking firm Firethorn for $210 million in cash. Firethorn provides the back-end infrastructure that allows people to check their bank statements and pay bills from their mobile phones. Qualcomm will use Firethorn's banking and wireless relationships to broaden its own mobile services offerings and accelerate the use of mobile banking. The sale is expected to be completed within 30 days.
