Is It Your Type? Body The Three S's Touch

Mar 14, 2009, 2:30 PM   by Eric M. Zeman

Here's an in-depth look at the new LG Versa, which has a touch screen and detachable QWERTY keyboard. See where it excels and where it falls a bit short.

It's hard to classify the LG Versa, as it really has two personalities. It can be a svelte, touch-based phone that is basically an updated version of the LG Dare, or it can be a not-so-svelte, QWERTY keyboard-equipped messaging device. Having flexibility is nice, but transforming the Versa between its two different personalities is, quite frankly, a pain. This means you're only going to use it one way or the other, and not switch it up all that often. Which raises the question: why have the ability to switch at all?

AMEN!
Touch Capacitace is great for multi-touch but that is about it. I have a iPod Touch and an Instinct and the touch is more responsive but my wife and some other female freinds have a hell of a time using the keyboard with long finger nails. Not to me...

People with nails or gloves can't use TC screens. Plus, TC uses literally a touch to activate, and that can cause false positives as well. TR requires a light push on the device to operate. Once you understand that to drag you have to be pushing down ...

Just a quick note:

Verizon does include their mobile email with their data plans (the connect plan). While Vcast offers unlimited data, it was built for the Vcast Video portal. With the new connect plans you get mobile email and unlimited data.

A good review overall. I'm actually one of the ones that enjoys the phone with the keyboard attached, and after you mess with it a bit switching between the two isn't hard.

This phone seems to be the biggest hit with people considering the EnV2/Voyager moreso than those going for the dare, at least in my store. A lot of my older customers are very interested in the phone because they want a touchscreen but don't want to give up a full keyboard. The touchscreen/keyboard makes it much easier for them to navigat...

Connect plan is also $10 over the cost of the Select plan, while Vcast is $15 more.

The worst part about this phone...

The worst part about this phone is that it will most likely sell really well on Verizon. Then more companies will make crappy detachable phones like this. next thing we know Nyko will make a keyboard attachment for the iPhone. This is the beginning of the end.

DUMB

LG should be slapped and verizon should be kicked for allowing this silliness to the market! even the reviewer could not help but comment on how awkward holding this retarded phone will be...and snapping it on and off like that, oh yeah that's going to hold up, NOT! We've a plethora of stupid touch screens, God how I hate them- enough already! Make some decent phones! Ever carrier has a better messaging phone than verizon, ugg ☹️
I couldn't agree more. What a dreadful, horrible design. Reverse the Versa.

Better messaging phones?

Verizon has always had the best messaging phone.

AT&T never had one unless it was a PDA until the end of 08.
