do companies not realize this hurts sales?

as a sales rep and know many sales reps, this actually hurts sales. most customer hear how much and just DON'T. plus, they would actually MAKE more money if they charged 5 cents for the messages and people think it's cheap and do it more often...
wall street wants to see that monthly revenue up. which means vzw is going to do everything they can to force people to pay for a package.

also, as people have found out since the 96 telecom act, "bundling" does not equal cheaper

I have a problem paying for text messages I do not want to receive. As a very casual text messenger, I find it ridiculous to pay $6+ for 10 or so text messages a month. If they would offer a 1.99 or 2.99 package a month, i wouldn't complain.

IT"S GETTING CRAZY IN HERE!!

Wow,

I don't post very often, but had to considering all of the hostilities that are posted from this news announcement.

Verizon, like everyone else reserves the right to change the per message rates if they want to. It is their right as a business. Last time I checked, it is a free market system. If you are a consumer and don't like the fact that your wireless carrier is charging you more for not having a bundled text service, then leave. It's that simple people.

I have friends that work at Verizon. I asked them what they thought about the increase in per message cost. They said that almost everyone that signs up gets a Verizon Select plan or bundle of some type, because it gives them the ability to send an unlimited amount of text...

Well I have a few things to post about your comments.
Are you talking about just verizon or for everyone when u say that you can block texts if you don't want them? There are companies carriers out there that wont allow you to block incoming text...

15 Cents still at ATT and T-Mobile!

Well switch to the two true World Carriers... ATT and T-Mo both still have the lowest prices for texting. T-Mobile also has the lowest Unlimited text prices out there! Just like Sprint to bend you over just a little bit more... If they go any farther no one will be there anymore. Verizon, all I can say is they got to pay for all those extras for the tv comericals somehow!!! Also, has anyone been a Verizon store lately? How many people can you have working in one little store anyways?!? The ones near me are always packed making it look busy, but its really the 6 techs, 2 door greaters and 4 sales people all walking around... Ok, my rant is done now...
for now....

That sounds to me like a good thing. Would you rather walk into a store and have one person serving hundreds? The logic there is backwards. And here's another issue, you would choose a carrier because of simply their per message text rates? That s...

Extending service contract

I will pose a question to the gurus here. Will purchasing a bundle of messages, if someone does not already have one already, automatically renew their contract? I remember reading about how easy it was for the companies to say that you extended your contract for something trivial, say, calling tech support. Did this change?
no, it does not renew your contract.

SAMETHING SIX MONTHS AGO!!!!!

This is nothing new all the carriers did this six months ago to encourage bundles. Next year it will be over $.30 a text to send and receive a msg. Other words you got to buy a bundle or pay the huge price.
I have yet to understand why anybody wouldn't utilize text enough to encourage the purchase of a bundle, in this modern era. Texting is the new thing, jump on board!

Correction

Verizon Wireless began to notify customers that the per message charge will increase. The increase does not go into effect until March 2008.
