Angstrom Power recently completed trials of a fuel cell system that effectively doubled talk time and the overall battery life in mobile phones. The trial involved a Motorola SLVR L7 and a fuel system that fit inside the phone without modification. The Micro Hydrogen platform uses a new fuel cell architecture, micro-fluidics and a refillable hydrogen storage tank to provide power. Angstrom believes the technology could be built into phones as early as 2010, but the logistics of refilling/recharging systems have yet to be worked out.

if i understand right
once you have one of these, your talk time doubles, then when you run the "battery" down, its a trip to the store to buy more hydrogen to put in, this could get expensive fast... or maybe im just reading it wrong....
Seems that way to me too.
Heck, I'll believe it when it's actually on the market, I'm kinda pissed, I have the Nokia N95-3, and a spare battery for my phone is frinkin $55, that is absolutley outrageous!!!!!!
That's just as much as a car battery!!...

Just hope your battery dies during business hours...
Yeah, I think the reason they never come out with these is that no one would actually buy them once they realized they have to get refilled periodically. What a waste of time.
For this to make SENSE, it would have to be a closed-cycle cell. H2 and O2 are bonded to become water, releasing energy in the process. The water is collected within the cell, and cracked back into H2 and O2 when the device is charged. But ultimately ...

No. There are methods of making hydrogen out of nothing more than electricity and water so most likely you'd put water into some sort or receptical and then plut it into the battery. It would likely charge much faster too.
Kaboom!!!!
Lets not forget that Hg is a compressed gas that is extracted form H2O. People that drop there phone run the risk of dropping one to many times and then your phone becomes a pocket bomb.
How do you explain the liquid damage. Oops I dropped my phone and now the Hg is leaking into the electrical components on my phone.
ROFL...
uh, no. Surprisingly, hydrogen really isn't all that explosive. It's far too light. Those dramatic pictures you see of the Hindenburg are actually of the flammable varnish on the gas bag burning, not of the hydrogen itself.
And it's a...

I'd rather have Stanford's Li-Ion battery
yeah wayyyyyyyyy much better 10x and it's worth the wait if this comes out. This fuel cell thing is a loser.
sayy if i remember correctly hydrogen fuel cells need to have an exhaust port for water that comes out the other end dont it? not good for cell phones and you'd always have a wet pocket! 👀
attention rednecks!
now with this innovation they can make a refillable cigarette lighter into the cell phone!! just by a cannister of compressed hydro and stick it into the refill nozzle psssst light em up marlbro man! yuk yuk 🤣
Can we make it out of CO2?
That way I can refill my phone battery from my air pump while I'm on a bike tour.
The Stanford battery sure sounds better. Ten times the power, presumably rechargeable by standard means, and no having to pay for refills.
oh yeah? remind me in 2 ****ing years then...
jesus...ha...thats great...in 2 years
I'll believe this when it happens, they've been talking about fuel cells for the longest time now, I mean 3-4 yrs, they've been talking about this already.
