Today Purple Labs announced its acquisition of Openwave Software. Openwave makes software for mobile phones. Its browser is used on many mobile phones in the U.S., including many that operate on Verizon's network. Purple Labs is based in France and supplies Linux software to 3G phones. Under the terms of the deal, Purple Labs paid $30 million in cash for Openwave's software and client assets, and will pay an additional $2 million if certain conditions are met during the transition. Openwave will provide support to Purple Labs for six months.
