UDC Develops OLED Display that Is 50 Micrometers Thick

Universal Display Corporation has created a new OLED display that is just 50 micrometers thick and highly flexible. UDC achieved this by using a metal foil that is flexible and has good thermal, mechanical and permeation barrier properties. Because OLEDs can break down if exposed to air or moisture, UDC also developed a flexible barrier to cover and protect the OLED. These two materials combined can guarantee a long life for the display. UDC has not indicated when or if its technology will be used in actual devices, but an OLED display measuring 50 micrometers would work well in devices such as mobile phones.
