New Chip from ST-NXP Integrates 3G and Wi-Fi

ST-NXP Wireless announced a new chip for cellular phones that is meant to bridge 3G and Wi-Fi networks more seamlessly. The the Cellular System Solution 7210 UMA chipset includes GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS, 3 megapixel camera sensor interface, support for QVGA displays, as well as audio playback and video capture/playback. This dual-mode 3G UMA chip will allow cell phones to roam and handover between UMTS cellular networks, GSM/EDGE networks, and home or business Wi-Fi hot spots.
