Company Claims It Can Nix Interference, Boost 3G Performance

A company called Advanced Receiver Technologies says it has found a way to reduce interference and improve coverage for 3G devices. According to ART, "intercell interference limits 3G network capacity and restricts the high-speed data connection to the users. For example, today’s handsets and other user devices have a high speed data connection only 40% of the time — when they are close to a cell tower." To combat the issue, ART developed a new chip called the Single Antenna Interference Cancellation (SAIC) receiver. The SAIC must be built into the baseband chip to work. ART claims that this will allow cell phones to connect to 3G networks throughout the entire cell area, will double the capacity of each cell, and improve voice call connectivity. ART will be introducing the product at Mobile World Congress later this month.
