Google, Microsoft, Others to Advise FCC on White Spaces

A handful of technology companies, including Comsearch, Dell, Google, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Motorola, and Neustar, have banded together to from the White Space Database Group. The organization's main goal will be to provide the Federal Communications Commission with perspectives and specific recommendations about the technical requirements it would like to see adopted for the database. The white spaces, which some companies are hoping will be used to provide wireless broadband services, will become available once the transition to DTV is complete. Google said that it doesn't want to be responsible for this database, but hopes the database will be up and running within a few months.
