Broadcom's Latest EDGE Chip Can Do Touch and Haptics

Broadcom announced a new EDGE chipset for 2G phones that can do many of the things that more powerful 3G chipsets can do. Some of the key features this new chip will bring to lower-cost 2G handsets include touch-based user interfaces with haptic feedback, accelerometers, advanced multimedia and increased Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS connectivity. The chipset includes his includes a quad-band EDGE transceiver, analog and digital baseband functions, and support for high quality image capture, USB 2.0, high-speed secure digital interfaces and H.264 video recording and playback. Samsung has said it will use this chip in future products.
