Texas Instruments Launches New Mobile Processors

Texas Instruments announced a new set of processors for smartphones and other devices called OMAP 4. OMAP 4 uses dual-core, ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore SMP-based architectures and uses parallel processing for faster performance. OMAP 4 is capable of running at speeds up to 1GHz, These new mobile processors will enable phones to run full 1080p HD recording and playback, camera modules ranging up to 20 megapixels, more PC-like Internet browsing, 3D user interfaces and OMAP 4 also allows for better power management. OMAP 4 will support the Android Platform, LiMo Linux, Symbian and Windows Mobile. The chips will sample in the second half of 2009, with production scheduled for the middle of 2010.
