Feb 27, 2009, 8:25 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Nuance Communications announced its intent to acquire Zi for $35 million. Zi provides different text-input technologies for cell phones such as spell check, predictive text and handwriting recognition. Nuance makes and licenses T9 text input technology, and also offers voice-based commands, controls and other features. Nuance believes the acquisition of Zi will allow it to better meet demands for text input in Asian markets. The companies expect the deal to close in June.
