Wireless Players Seek Voice Over LTE Standard
Mar 9, 2009, 8:18 AM by Eric M. Zeman
A number of wireless companies have launched a new initiative to push for a Voice over LTE standard. The group, calling itself the Voice over LTE via Generic Access (VoLGA) Forum, counts Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, Kineto Wireless, LG Electronics, Motorola, Nortel, Samsung, Starent Networks, T-Mobile and ZTE as its members. By creating a standard, these companies hope to allow wireless network operators to offer voice and messaging services over LTE networks based on the current 3GPP Generic Access Network (GAN) standard. The Forum hopes to publish standards by the middle of 2009.

What better way to solve these issues, than to just cut out the middle man all together?
