Omron and Renesas Team Up for Capacitive Touch Screens
Mar 16, 2009, 6:35 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Omron and Renesas Technology have entered into a joint venture to co-develop capacitive touch screens. Omron makes touch sensors, and Renesas makes micro-controllers. Renesas will use Omron's touch sensors to make a wide array of touch-sensitive interfaces for consumer electronics, including mobile phones. By combining the sensor and micro-controller into one chip, the accuracy of the touch sensor will be improved. Other benefits Renesas and Omron expect to realize include reduced power consumption, smaller sizes, and reduced costs of incorporating touch technology into devices.
