ST-Ericsson Takes EDGE to the Edge

Today ST-Ericsson announced new EDGE platforms that will allow for a wider feature set on entry-level handsets in emerging markets. The 4910 and 4908 platforms combine digital and analog basebands, RF transceiver and power management unit onto a single chip. The provides for better multimedia support, security and battery life. The two platforms have a very low cost of materials, so they can be used on entry-level handsets without adding significantly to the cost.
