Opera: Major U.S. Carrier Deal to Be Announced Soon
Jul 7, 2009, 2:30 PM by Eric M. Zeman
According to Opera's CEO Jon von Tetzchner, the company is poised to announce a new distribution agreement with a major U.S. wireless network operator. In a recent interview, von Tetzchner said, "We are working ... to provide an Opera Mini-based solution with a major operator in the U.S." Opera already has deals in place with Virgin Mobile USA and Sprint, and von Tetzchner said that the imminent deal will be larger than those two. One issue of note is that the deal is being brokered by Motricity, and it is likely the browser will be carrier branded, and not branded by Opera. The deal should be announced sometime in the next two weeks.
