Today Palm issued a large update to the webOS operating system on the Pre. webOS 1.1 brings Sprint's NFL application as well as a large number of fixes and/or updates to existing applications. Some of the applications seeing fixes are the calendar, camera, clock, contacts, email, messaging, phone, system software and web browser. webOS 1.1 also restores the Pre's ability to sync with Apple's iTunes software.

Stop playing catch up

Honestly, if I were a Palm user, I wouldn't exactly want my operating system to always play catch up with some program that doesn't want my phone. I feel like these phones need to stop trying to be the next iPhone and just be whatever they are. But it's stuff like this that makes me, as a consumer, think that Palm is just trying to make another iPhone. Blackberry has their own Media Center. Palm should develop their own as well...I mean, the webOS looks good. Make a computer program that looks and works just as good.

I say this to people all the time...if all these phones are trying to be iPhones...why not just get the original and stop playing catch up. As for the manufacturers, stop trying to be the iPhone and make your own identity.
The thing is, iTunes is very widely used. So rather than develop a whole new media manager or license one out (RIM uses Roxio, which isn't very good), they are simply using an existing one. It makes more sence and quite frankly should make most people...

What Palm should do......

Palm should file a lawsuit against Apple like they did to Microsoft. Apple filed a lawsuit back in 2006 against Microsoft because Microsoft wouldn't allow their OS to be put on Apple Computers. (This is when Apple started to put intels in their computers) What a bunch of Hypocrities.
"Apple filed a lawsuit back in 2006 against Microsoft because Microsoft wouldn't allow their OS to be put on Apple Computers."

Provide proof that this happened, because it didn't.

Palm is now forging vendor IDs- violating the USB Licensing agreement

Apparently, with the most recent update to iTunes, Apple fixed the bug where any device named "iPod" would be recognized, and instead checked for vendor ID.

To counter this, Palm has now forged its vendor ID as "Apple." This is a direct violation of the USB licensing agreement.

Palm's beef now isn't with Apple, it's with the entire USB licensing consortium- of which Apple is a member of.

Palm is going to wind up dead if they keep this up...

If Palm doesn't get it's own synchronization software, it's going to be forced into a cat-and-mouse game with Apple.

Each update Apple pushes of iTunes is going to send Palm stock further down the toilet while they scramble to patch it. Eventually, Apple is going to maneuver it so they have a basis for a lawsuit (likely regarding knowledge former employees have) , and Palm will be toast.

On top of that, it's hard for Palm to pitch this as a "professional device" when they're doing this.

Palm- Hire some programmers and develop a legit means of media synchronization. I like the Pre, but want to see version 2 (where I am hoping you fix the crummy hardware) . Staying alive is crucial.
palm also has amazon, and sprint music... itunes isnt the only thing available for music.
...
I'm not positive but I believe I read that one of the employees who helped develope the WebOS is a former member of the team that helped develope the Iphone.
...
Granted I am a Sprint employee, but I don't even know why ppl care about this. I've used itunes...there are better options. And with my Pre i've found it easier to sync via USB mode anyway and just drag and drop what I wanted on my phone. More options...

Hahahaha love it

Apple should just give up. Palm is just like the Dev Team.....outwitting ol' Jobs and making it look easy.
🤣 I see this going back and forward for a long time until someone takes legal actions.
