Verizon Wireless Accidentally Outs the Samsung Rogue

Verizon Wireless recently advertised a phone called the Samsung Rogue, which has yet to be officially announced by Samsung or Verizon. The ad lists features such as "touch screen and video camera", but no other details are known.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has released a new software tool that it hopes can alert people (such as protesters) when someone (such as police) may be operating an IMSI catcher (commonly known by the brand name Stingray) nearby. An IMSI catcher pretends to be a cell phone base station (tower) and records the unique identifiers of phones nearby that automatically attempt to connect to it.
