Today AT&T said that it has increased coverage and capacity in the greater metropolitan New York City area with its 850MHz spectrum. According to AT&T, large portions of New York City, Long Island and New Jersey should see improvements in service, as it has enabled some 1,600 cell sites with 850MHz. AT&T noted that it plans to add more cell cites to the NYC region. AT&T also said that it will begin upgrading its 3G network to HSDPA 7.2Mbps speeds in the fourth quarter, with completion expected in 2011.
