Palm revealed during a press call today that it will no longer make and sell smartphones based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating platform. It will only release devices using its own webOS platform from now on. The company also reiterated that it continues to develop and improve webOS, and that it will be able to push out system updates via the Internet. Palm noted that it sold 823,000 phones during its first fiscal quarter, but it wouldn't specify what percentage were represented by the Pre, which has been available from Sprint since June.

Palm gets it

they finally figured out that any idiot can build hardware. they should have stopped relying on microsoft and their own dinosaur OS years ago. while the blackberry hardware is nice, it's the OS coupled with the server solutions (read: Software) that make it great; same with the iphone. the hardware is nice, but it's the Sw that makes it awesome. webOS ups the ante. we'll see if winmo 7 for smartphone keeps up.

Sounds like ok numbers.

Looks like they're doing fine. With this productivity it seems they will be back with the big boys in no time. 😉
I think that's kinda weird how secrative they're being about the Pre's sales figures. What harm comes from releasing sales figures?!!!?

cool beans

I loved the os operating system on the centro. I think palms operating system is easy to use, and very efficient for it's devices. as long as they keep pumping out those amazing phones, I'll keep buying them. go palm!
Palm OS is long gone. They're focusing on their new WebOS.
