RIM Offers Devs Widget SDK for BlackBerry Platform

Research In Motion recently made a software development kit (SDK) available to developers of the BlackBerry platform. This new SDK will, in particular, allow those developers to more easily create widgets (web-based applications) for BlackBerry devices. The tools combine the advantages of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Furthermore, developers will be able to use Widget APIs to have their widgets interact with the native applications on the phone. Support for BlackBerry Widgets will be available on BlackBerries running system 5.0 and up, which will include an browser with support for Gears, SQLite and the BlackBerry Widget APIs. A beta release of the BlackBerry Widget SDK is available fro developers starting today.
