Today the Joint Innovation Labs announced that a number of handset makers, including LG, RIM, Samsung and Sharp, have all voiced support for its mobile widget specification. By agreeing to support the spec, it will make it easier for developers worldwide to create widgets that can be deployed across a range of handsets and network operators at once. The JIL's core members are China Mobile, Softbank, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone.
