Ericsson was the successful bidder in the auction for Nortel's North American GSM/GSM-R businesses. Ericsson will pay about $70 million for the business units, though Kapsch CarrierCom of Austria will contribute $33 million and acquire Nortel's non-North American GSM assets. The agreement will give Ericsson Nortel's GSM network contracts with AT&T and T-Mobile. Ericsson will add approximately 350 employees from Nortel to its head count. Earlier this year, Ericsson acquired Nortel's CDMA and LTE assets.
