Nokia to Halve Premium Device Output in 2010
Dec 3, 2009, 12:22 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Nokia has said that in order to better tackle the competition, it will reduce the number of new smartphones it brings to market in 2010. Jo Harlow, the new head of Nokia's smartphone unit, said, "We see really fierce competition certainly in the high-end, but we also see it in the mid to low end of smartphones increasing." Nokia released about 20 premium devices in 2009, and has reduced that number by half for the 2010 calendar year. Antti Vasara, head of smartphone unit R&D, said, "We have cut down unnecessary differentiation, so that we have a far more focused portfolio for next year. We can put more effort behind these products."
