PocketGear Acquires Handango, Creates Super Apps Store

Today PocketGear announced that it has acquired long-time mobile apps provider Handango. Combined, the two companies now offer over 140,000 applications to most mobile platforms around the globe, including devices that run Android, Symbian, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Palm, Linux, and Java. The new storefront has a presence in 175 countries and has apps compatible with more than 2,000 unique devices. PocketGear and Handango already have distribution relationships with Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Research in Motion, Microsoft, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon Wireless. Jud Bowman will remain as President and CEO of PocketGear and Alex Bloom, current chief executive of Handango, will become Chief Operating Officer of PocketGear. Terms of the deal acquisition were not disclosed.
