AT&T Adds Four Messaging Phones with New Services

Today AT&T announced four new quick messaging devices, QWERTY-equipped feature phones for those who want keyboards but don't need smartphones. The four devices are among the first to come with new AT&T services on board, including a revised online address book that can sync between phones and PCs; a threaded messaging inbox that now offers the ability to SMS groups of contacts; and a new media sharing capability that lets users upload to social networking services and an online "Mobile Locker." According to AT&T, the mobile share service costs $10 per month (for 50 transfers) or users can pay $0.35 per transfer. The service includes 250MB of storage for free, and users can purchase 10GB for $5 per month.

Samsung Strive: The Strive (pictured top) is a vertical slider that has a 2 megapixel camera with video capture and is compatible with AT&T's Video Share service. It has Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and will cost $20 with new plan. It will be available March 21.
Samsung Sunburst: This touchphone (pictured bottom) has a 3-inch touch screen with virtual keyboard and a 2 megapixel camera with video capture. It also has GPS on board, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, a curved exterior design and widgets. It will cost $40 after rebate and also goes on sale March 21.
Pantech Link: This bar-style phone has a slim profile and GPS. Price wasn't disclosed, it will become available in the coming weeks.
Pantech Pursuit: This device combines a touch screen and also slides open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. It also has a camera and face-recognition software to help tag photos. The Pursuit also supports GPS. It will be available over the summer.

Pretty awesome...but...

I love the messaging phones, especially with the amount of folks who like having a full keyboard. But what bothers me just a bit is that I'm noticing a lot of AT&T phones are either messaging phones or smartphones. There are very few regular flip phones left. Now, that wouldn't bother me if it weren't for the fact any phone with a full keyboard has to have a text/data plan of $20 or more. So it's like, you can choose between these two crappy flip phones or this overwhelming amount of smartphones or messaging phones.

I dunno...I know it's all about demand, but the choice isn't there.

I know somebody who has an N75, and he likes flip phones that have stereo speakers. But he can't find anything new that is comparble to the N75.
