According to Atlantic Tele-Network (ATN), a regional wireless provider specializing in "under-served" markets and the Caribbean, the Department of Justice has approved ATN's purchase of some Alltel assets from Verizon Wireless. Verizon Wireless was forced to sell some of Alltel's spectrum and assets when it purchased the smaller carrier in 2008. The deal will give ATN wireless spectrum rights and network assets in regional parts of Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Illinois, Ohio, and Idaho. The deal will be finalized after the FCC approves the new acquisition.
