Google Admits Gallery App in Android 2.1 Has Lower Quality

In response to research about the gallery application in Android 2.1, Google confirmed that the Google-developed gallery app for Android 2.0.1 uses 24-bit color, while the Cooliris-developed gallery app for Android 2.1 uses 16-bit color. This results in a reduction in image quality within the application itself, but not the actual photos. Google pointed out that its own gallery uses a 2D approach, while Cooliris uses a 3D approach. Google wouldn't say if future versions of Android would have an improved version of Cooliris.

how does the affect the HTC HERO's "Albums" app?

Hero users do not even see the Gallery, ours is called Albums. will it be as described but called albums, or will it be different?

If, when you get the 2.1 update, HTC sticks with the default gallery app instead of making a custom one, you might also see the degrade. but knowing HTC, they are most likely tweaking it
