Square Begins Sending Free Card Readers for Mobile Payments

In what founder Jack Dorsey called "another phase of our rollout," Square today announced it has started distributing the free card readers that are necessary to accept credit card payments with its mobile app. Square clients are now available for the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Android devices. Square is also starting to manage its own credit card processing. Though Dorsey's letter on the Square Web site seemed to indicate this would be a soft launch, clearly the mobile payment service is open for business.

Risky Business
I read this yesterday and the comments sections suggested that this device could actually be used to skim. Hope I'm not using the term skim incorrectly. Basically this device could be used for scams, and this isn't the first of its kind to hit the scene.

Just imagine the possibilities...
I will be able pay for another lapdance without having to leave the private room and use the ATM. I will be able to buy & sell stuff through craigslist with a Credit/Debit Card, thus removing the risk of getting my money jacked by the seller. Best of all, I won't have to worry about having the cash to buy drugs. I can put it on credit!
