Verizon Does About-Face on Number Portability

After years of aggressive lawsuits and lobbying, Verizon finally appears to have given up trying to fight the FCC's Number Portability mandate. Verizon Wireless president and CEO Denny Strigl today said his company would adopt easy Number Portability procedures with no fees, and urged other carriers to adopt similar policies. Last week, the company began accepting applications for employment at its new number portability call center in Tennessee, which will begin operations in October. The FCC has set a November 24th deadline for carriers to implement Number Portability, which will allow customers to keep their phone numbers when changing carriers.
