Toshiba and Fujitsu Agree to Merge Phone Businesses
Jun 17, 2010, 7:10 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Toshiba and Fujitsu today announced that they will merge the operations of their cellular handset businesses. Toshiba will detach its mobile business from the rest of its operations, and Fujitsu will acquire the majority of shares in the new entity. The companies hope to close the financials by the end of July and launch the new organization in October. The two companies believe the merger will allow them to better compete with Japanese market leader Sharp, which makes 26.2% of the phones sold in Japan. The new combined Toshiba-Fujitsu business would automatically capture a total of 18.7% of the Japanese market.

Sure. It's mobile news. I like reading about the Japanese market. Their handsets and networks are truly amazing.
