SkypeKit SDK Brings Skype to All Electronics
Jun 22, 2010, 8:31 AM by Eric M. Zeman
Skype today announced SkypeKit SDK, a new set of software tools and APIs (application programming interfaces) that developers can use to port Skype to web-connected devices aside from mobile phones and computers. The SDK will let developers add Skype calling, video chat and instant messaging to a wide range of new devices, such as tablets and TVs. The new SDK supports Linux starting today, and will support Windows and Apple soon. Developers will not be able to create web-based versions of Skype, as Skype needs its own runtime environment. This new SDK should help Skype proliferate across and work between all types of web-connected electronic devices.
